GENIUS

I am so in love with Lucky Louie right now. I just watched the pilot on Tivo. The first scene is the father, Louie, eating cereal with his four-year-old daughter, Lucy. I actually took the time to transcribe this dialogue AND record it directly from the TV because since Jack took Jackson camping for the night I suddenly have enormous amounts of time to waste in an extravagant manner such as this.

Lucy: Papa, can we play outside?

Louie: No.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: Because it's five o'clock in the morning, it's too early.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: The sun hasn't come up yet.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: Because the sun comes up later.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: Well, the earth goes around and when it turns a certain amount the sun shows on the horizon.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: I don't know.

Lucy: Why? Why don't you know, Papa?

Louie: Because I didn't pay attention in school, okay? I didn't listen in class.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: Because I was high all the time. I smoked too much pot.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: I didn't think it would matter.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: I just figured my life would come together on its own. And then I met your mom, and then you came along, so now I work at the muffler shop.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: Well, it's too late for me to pursue a career now, and since your mom has a job with benefits I stay home and take care of you because what I make is pretty much just a joke.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: Well, the service economy replaced manufacturing, there's no real jobs in America anymore.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: We had good jobs for awhile because we were lucky, and now we're unlucky.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: It's just the way it goes.

Lucy: Why?

Louie: Because God is dead and we're alone.

Lucy: Okay.
